Matt Allchurch

Director

Profile

Matt formed MAA in 1998. He was shortlisted for the RIBA Silver medal 1992. Prior to forming MAA, Matt worked for BDP on the Wimbledon new no.1 court and the Hampden Gurney School.  

Matt takes responsibility for the concept design stage of all projects, initial site appraisals and planning strategies. Thereafter, he remains actively involved throughout the design process including regular internal reviews, client meetings and presentations to the stake holders.

Claire Richardson

Head of Finance & Communication

Profile

Claire joined MAA in 2006, after completing her MA at the University of Sussex. Claire leads the Finance, IT and HR functions of the business.

Claire is passionate about complementary and holistic approaches to the workplace environment, and the wellness of the team. Throughout her time with the practice, she has spearheaded a number of fun & lively people-led engagement initiatives.

Prior experience includes the UKAS & Sony. Claire also held an Editorial post at Gold Dust Magazine, publishing their inaugral Poetry Anthology, Liquid Gold.

Gary Sutherland

Associate Director

Profile

Gary joined MAA in 2010. At MAA, Gary co-ordinated the construction of the hotel and data centre project and has led various schemes for majour house builders, including Berkeley Homes. His technical expertise is also utilised on projects at work stage 4 - 7. 

 

Gary has a background in the commercial, civic and residential sector and was the project associate for the BP North Sea Headquarters building. Gary also worked on the new £65m Birmingham Magistrate's and has extensive experience in delivering housing projects.

Val Petrushechkin

Associate Director

Profile

Russian born Val joined MAA in April 2011.  At MAA, Val leads project teams and co-ordinates regular design workshops to encourage the junior members of staff to develop their architectural knowledge and evolve the MAA skill set.

 

He studied architecture in the US and UK and graduated from the AA School of Architecture. Since then, he has worked in Switzerland and the UK for a number of award winning practices. His job running experience ranges from bespoke residential to high spec office and commercial.

Ruth Anders

Associate

Profile

Ruth joined MAA in September 2015 with a strong construction background. At MAA, Ruth co-ordinated the construction stages of a BTM conversion, and a new storage facility in Wandsworth. Ruth also co-ordinates the construction stages of residential and commercial projects.

 

Ruth's experience includes work on a new 216 bed hotel in Liverpool and the Mandarin Oriental Hotel London. Ruth also worked on Regent's Quarter Kings Cross, with a project value of £35M. Ruth also has experience in London office developments, and also flagship retail projects.

 

Jennie GreenWalker

Associate

Profile

Jennie joined MAA in January 2016. At MAA, Jennie has worked on large scale residential-led mixed use projects, as well as co-ordintating smaller residential projects.

 

Prior to joining MAA, Jennie worked for FCBs where she led the school phase of the Battersea Park East project, a development of 290 dwellings and 2 form entry primary school. Jennie has extensive experience in the education sector working on various schools and Acadamies, including BACA, Eastbourne Academy and Thamesview.


Anna Smith

Architectural & Interior Designer

Profile

Anna joined MAA in 2000. At MAA Anna has worked on the Headmasters salons and has designed show homes for residential developers. She co-ordinated the New Ways of Working project and space planned office layouts for Investec bank. Anna has extensive space planning experience and her skills are utilised on a number of residential and office projects.

 

Prior to MAA, she designed a reception area for Bembo House and designed interiors for St George and Berkeley show homes in central London.


Sam Sclater-Brooks

Senior Architect

Profile

Sam joined MAA in October 2015. At MAA, Sam has primarily been working on various projects through stages 1-3. Sam qualified in October 2018. Sam is currently co-ordinating a residential refurbishment and extension project next to London City Airport.  

 

Prior to MAA, Sam’s primary experience has been in the residential sector working on projects ranging from one off private housing to larger scale residential developments. Sam has gained valuable experience over the RIBA work stages from front end design through to on-site project delivery.

 

Steve Hutton

Workplace

Profile

Steve has worked extensively in the world of commercial interiors for over 30 years. Taking Designphase to being the 70th fastest non-listed company in Britain; building one of the first interactive website, on-line project management and procurement platforms; running 'Buying Force' for DTZ and Prupim and developing and growing HarmsenTilneyShane Ltd.

Steve combines a deep understanding of current and forward thinking workplace trends with knowledge of how businesses operate to the workplace analysis and design process.

Vanessa White

Architect

Profile

Vanessa joined MAA in August 2011. At MAA, Vanessa has worked on large scale residential-led mixed use projects and a number of housing projects for Berkeley Homes. Vanessa assists the project associates in order to ensure full co-ordination with the junior members of the MAA team.

 

Vanessa previously worked at Fosters, Grimshaw, Hamiltons, and LDS. Her experience includes HM Treasury, Parliament Square, a number of university buildings around UCL, office buildings and mixed used residential schemes within conservation areas. Vanessa also worked on the 2012 Olympic Park.

 

 

Konstantinos Dimopoulos

Architect

Profile

Konstantinos joined MAA in February 2018, having previously worked for Gilberts Architects in Edinburgh and MAS_Makrides Associates in Thessaloniki. At MAA, Konstantinos is working on the construction package of a 7 unit residential development. 

Konstantinos successfully completed a Masters Degree in Advanced Sustainable Design at The University of Edinburgh and a 5 year professional integrated Masters Degree in Architecture & Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he achieved a distinction. He has built up a specific interest in the integration of the computational methodologies into sustainable design.

 

 

Ben Newman

Architect

Profile

Ben joined MAA in September 2018 and gained professional registration in 2020 having completed his Part III studies at the University of Bath. At MAA Ben is assisting the project associates on various schemes and running his own smaller projects. Ben is also taking a lead role in the practice’s CAD and emerging BIM Management.

Prior to joining MAA, Ben worked on numerous small-scale developments gaining valuable experience from initial feasibility through to handover.

Charlotte Stephens

Part II Architectural Assistant

Profile

Charlotte joined MAA in 2015 after completing her Part II studies at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. At MAA, Charlotte assists the project architects and associates on various schemes, primarily at Stage 3+ developing her technical skills.

 

Her university thesis focussed on the renovation of a 1950s Modernist housing block and the strategies that could be used to transform the derelict shell into a model for contemporary housing. In New Zealand, Charlotte worked at Architecture Workshop on a proposition for the new Bulls Town Centre, north of Wellington.

 

Tom Boshell

Part II Architectural Assistant

Profile

Tom graduated with a BA in Architecture from the University of the Creative Arts, Canterbury and has recently completed his Part II at the University of Bath. Tom has excellent 3D and model making skills, and he is predominately involved in concept development stage projects and assisting senior members of the team. 


He is currently developing his technical skills, in both planning and construction, on residential schemes in London and the south east.

Vlad Pielelunga

Part II Architectural Assistant

Profile

Vlad joined MAA in January 2018. At MAA, Vlad is working on the conversion of a 15 storey office building into 360 residential units, utilising his extensive experience in technical detailing. 

Vlad's previous experience includes 2½ years delivering technical construction drawings for a stone design company, where he was involved in high-end residential (35 Marylebone High Street), cultural (Exhibition Quarter at the V&A) and commercial (Mint Project at O2) projects.

Vlad completed his Part II Masters in Bucharest, “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urban Planning.

Joshua Murphy

Part II Architectural Assistant

Profile

Josh joined MAA in May 2018. At MAA, Josh is assisting on large scale residential schemes and developing his technical CAD skills.

Josh undertook his architecture studies at the University of Kent with a term abroad spent at Virginia Tech University, USA. Josh previously worked at David Morley Architects and primarily contributed towards the early RIBA stages for medium/large scale mixed use schemes.

Josh has a passion for the International humanitarian aid sector, after spending 5 months as a volunteer assisting with the rebuild of two schools in Peru. 

Antoine Quesne

Part II Architectural Assistant

Profile

Antoine first joined the team in September 2018 to complete a year in practice with MAA whilst undertaking his architectural studies at ENSA Nantes School of Architecture, France. We welcome Antoine back to the team after completing his Part II studies in 2020. 

At MAA, Antoine is assisting the wider team utilising his excellent presentation skills, whilst also getting more involved in the technical aspects of a variety of projects.

Antoine has experience at KAAN Architecten (Rotterdam) and AIA Ingenierie (Nantes), and has also volunteered in the humanitarian aid sector to help renovate a Balinese primary school in a small disadvantaged village.

Louise Aikenhead

Part I Architectural Assistant

Profile

 

Louise joined MAA in September 2019. 

She studied Interior Architecture at Northumbria University, after which she worked as an architectural visualiser.  She is now assisting our design team on numerous exciting projects and utilising her passion for sustainability within architecture.  

Louise has also volunteered for a disaster relief organisation based in Brooklyn, New York helping rebuild homes for those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
